7 Star Praying Mantis Instructional DVD
Sifu Jon Funk has over 25 years experience in the martial arts. He learned the Seven Star Praying Mantis system from Masters Al Cheng and So Sue Ming. Funk is a direct 8th generation lineage descendant of the founder. He has also trained in judo and was a national champion forms competitor and full contact fighter. Sifu Funk is frequently published in martial art magazines such as Black Belt and Inside Kung Fu and operates a school in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.
Seven
Star Praying Mantis Kung Fu was founded in the 17th century by Wong Long,
a Shaolin student. Master Long developed a new system based on his observations
of the praying mantis. He copied the insect's quick grasping and ripping
claw movements, then classified them into attack and defense patterns.
Noting that the mantis has weak legs, Wong Long based the system's footwork
on the agility of the monkey, then completed his new system by importing
the best techniques from seventeen other styles of his day. The Seven
Star Praying Mantis educational series includes on each tape the forms
listed shown at performance speed with at teaching speed with a clear,
detailed explanation of the defense and attack potentials of each movement.
Each move in the forms is taught from three different angles and has extremely
detailed explanations of how the moves are to be conducted. After each
move is shown, the applications are demonstrated from two different angles
to make them very easy to understand. These videos give you an excellent
understanding of the praying mantis style.
